GACC Chess Championship is an entirely non-profitable, self-sustaining, student-run project which has been successfully organized for 22 years under the efforts of students from Tuanku Bahiyah Residential College, University of Malaya. GACC Chess Championship was well received by participants since 1996, and now, we are proud to announce that it will be held for its 23rd time in 2019.


Objective

  • To encourage chess as a hobby among students from primary schools to universities and colleges, especially students from University of Malaya.

  • To expose and train the committee members to organize and manage an internationally recognized project in a professional manner.

  • To promote the unique culture and heritage in Malaysia to the international participants, as well as those of each state or ethnic group to other locals.

  • To provide a platform for undergraduates from Malaysia and other countries to foster closer ties, as well as to provide a platform for school students to interact with those from other states in Malaysia.

OrganizerGACC Chess Championship is a world-class chess tournament organized by Tuanku Bahiyah Residential College, University of Malaya. It is the only rated chess tournament recognized by Malaysian Chess Federation (MCF) and World Chess Federation (FIDE) in University of Malaya. The Patron of GACC Chess Championship is Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Sultan Perak Darul Ridzuan, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah ibni Almarhum, Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah Al-Maghfurlah and Tuanku Pro Canselor University of Malaya. Success of GACCGACC Chess Championship is well known among the local and international chess community, not failing to attract students from the Philippines, Sri Lanka, India, Singapore, Indonesia and China every year. GACC Chess Championship is the most anticipated chess tournament for universities undergraduates due to the fact that many expert chess players have competed in GACC. For examples, we had Grand Master Bagheri Amir (Iran), Grand Master Maletin Pavel (Russia) and Grand Master Nebolsina Vera (Russia). In 2019, the expected total number of participants for all 5 events will be 1000 and over 5000 people will be reached throughout the events organized, including parents, teachers, staffs, local and international students as well as the public.
